History of the Internet

Objective

To give sudents a brief history of the Internet, a basic understanding of how it works, and the most common interactions with the Web.

The internet has its origins in the late 1960's when the US DOD (Department of Defense) developed a network of computers called ARPANET (Advanced Research Project Agency Network).

Students will access the Internet to do online research at teacher directed web locations. Web Mastering concepts will be addressed in a teacher lead classroom discussion.

Assignment 1
Students will view The Animated Internet (see Links - below) Parts 1-8

Compose two test questions for each of the eight sections of this animated series.Total of 16 questions and answers


Assignment 2
Students will view Four NETS for Better Searching (see Links - below)

Nets 1, 2, and 4
Answer ALL questions (queries) about number of matches (# Matches).

Net 3
Cite the proper URL for the "cool Shakespeare WebQuest" and name two additional "worthy Webquests" found at the same site.  

Assignment 3
Students will complete the Computer Scavenger Hunt Answer Sheet (Attachments - below)
