In order to be admitted to the Lenoir-Rhyne University School of Education, all applicants must complete and pass state-mandated entrance examinations. The following examinations may be taken to fulfill this requirement. Passing scores are listed with each examination. Check with your advisor if you have questions regarding your SAT or ACT scores.

Elementary Education & Secondary Education STEM or ELA/SS 6-12 Majors

*Students pursuing teacher licensure in Middle Grades (all subjects), Secondary (all subjects), or K-12 (Music, Health/PE, Spanish) who attain a composite score (Reading + Writing + Math) of 468 or better will be reviewed by the School of Education faculty and considered for full admission. 

*Students pursuing teacher licensure in Elementary Education who attain a composite score (Reading + Writing + Math) of 468 or better will be reviewed by the School of Education faculty and considered for full admission under the condition that the student is no more than 10 points from passing in one of three subjects.

Students taking all three subject tests can register for the Praxis Combined Core Academic Skills for Educators (5752). Students must meet passing score requirements for all three sections as listed above.

OR

*An overall composite score on verbal and mathematics of 1170 is acceptable even if one of your individual scores on the verbal or mathematics sections is below 600 or 570 respectively. Example: Student scores 670 on verbal and 500 on mathematics for a composite score of 1170. In this scenario the student’s composite score is acceptable for admission.

OR

*An overall composite score on English and mathematics of 24 is acceptable even if one of your individual scores on the verbal or mathematics sections is below 24. Example: Student scores 22 on English and 26 on mathematics for a composite score of 24. In this scenario the student’s composite score of 24 is acceptable for admission.
 

OTHER SCENARIOS

Applicants may use a combination of scores from different examinations to meet the testing requirements. A few examples of acceptable combination scores are listed below. (Note: Passing scores on SAT Verbal or ACT English waive both the Reading and Writing sections of the Praxis Core Academic Skills exam.)

1. Applicant scores a 600 on the SAT Verbal section and a 24 on the ACT mathematics section.
2. Applicant scores 24 on the ACT mathematics section but has no passing scores for Verbal or English on the SAT or ACT. Applicant takes and passes the Praxis Core Academic Skills tests in Reading and Writing.
3. Applicant scores a 600 on the SAT Verbal but has no passing scores for Mathematics on the SAT or ACT. Applicant takes and passes the Praxis Core Academic Skills test in Mathematics
