Admissions Requirements

Admission to the School of Education is required for all Elementary Education, Middle Grades Education, and Instructional Studies majors. Students may not complete 300 or 400 level courses within the major unless formally accepted to the School of Education. The following requirements must be met for admission:

Elementary Education Majors

  1. Officially declared major in Elementary Education
  2. Cumulative GPA of 2.7 or better at the time of admission
  3. Successful completion of basic skills testing requirements (see Testing Requirements page for details)
  4. Successfully complete EDU 254 and 255 Teaching Juries with proficient ratings
  5. Submit proficient Educator Dispositions Assessments from two faculty members within the School of Education (see Educator Dispositions page for details)
  6. Complete a background check through Castle Branch and have a clear record within 12 months of the SOE application submission date (see Background Check page for details)
  7. Submit the Application to Teacher Education by May 1 or August 1 (Click Here)

Secondary Education STEM or ELA/SS 6-12 Majors

  1. Officially declared major in STEM or ELA/SS 6-12 Education
  2. Cumulative GPA of 2.7 or better at the time of admission
  3. Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better at the end of Freshman year
  4. Successful completion of basic skills testing requirements (see Testing Requirements page for details)
  5. Submit two Educator Dispositions Assessments - One from a faculty member in the School of Education and one faculty member outside of the School of Education (see Educator Dispositions page for details)
  6. Pass COM 111
  7. Complete a background check through Castle Branch and have a clear record within 12 months of the SOE application submission date (see Background Check page for details)
  8. Submit the Application to Teacher Education by May 1, August 1, or December 1 (Click Here)

Instructional Studies

No special admissions requirements. Students are required to meet with the Instructional Studies program coordinator prior to declaring this major.
