Jumpstart

Prior to the start of my freshman year I participated in Jumpstart through the Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs. This is a program that allows a select number of first-year students to come to Ithaca a few days earlier in August than the rest of the incoming class and participate in one of four programs. I chose to participate in Lead-In, which allowed me to engage in team and leadership building activities as well as learn about the different opportunties Ithaca has to offer.

As an incoming student adjusting to life on her own, Jumpstart provided an easy transition for me to college and provided me with opportunities that shaped the person I am today. At first I was nervous about starting a new life in a place that was unfamiliar to me where I didn't know anyone. Jumpstart allowed me to instantly make connections with other first-year students many of whom I am still very good friends with today. If it wasn't for the Lead-In program I wouldn't have met my now roommate and best friend here at Ithaca.

Lead-In allowed me to expand my leadership skills and even helped me conquer my fear of heights by participating in a high ropes course. This program was also my first in-depth introduction to the Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs, which is where I work today. Looking back, I realize that participating in this program was one of the best choices I've ever made and has resulted in so many opportunities for me.
