As a member of the Service Saturday team, I help to organize the sites for every month's event. This means that for every month's event I reach out to members of the community to see if they would be interested in having volunteers help out with various events. I am also the team leader at one site each every month. This semester I have volunteered at Cayuga Ridge extended care facility and the Tough Turtle race.

February-Cayuga Ridge

On Valentines Day I volunteered at Cayuga Ridge extended care facility. During my time there I was able to visit with the residents and help facilitate a few games of bingo. It was a really fun day to volunteer as everyone was dressed in pink and red for the holiday. The residents really enjoyed playing bingo and I liked being able to talk with many of them and learn their stories.

April- Tough Turtle

At the Tough Turtle we helped with the coordination of the race and differnet stations that were spread throughout. This tough 5k obstacle course was extremely challenging for the participants and my role as a volunteer was to make sure I encouraged them and showed my support. For the first half of my shift I was stationed at one of the obstables and I made sure that runners were moving in the right direction and were aware of what they were supposed to be doing all while cheering them on. It seemed like a simple task, but I could tell some of the runners were extremely grateful for my help. The second half of my shift was spent throwing colored chalk on the runners as they crossed the finish line. This was so much fun and reminded me of when I participated in the Color Run this past summer. It was really awesome to stand at the finish line and cheer on the runners as they completed this course. I had so much fun and turned out to be very colorful in end.
