Social Media on Campus
In this SLI I learned about the different ways to effectively utilize social media for organizations on campus. I was able to learn about the different ways you can use management and analytical sites to your advantage to manage the different social media platforms your organizations has accounts on. This SLI was really beneficial and relevant to me because I am currently on the social media committee for Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow. I was able to use some of the things I learned about in this session when I managed the accounts during I Love IC Week, which was a STAT sponsored event.
5 Under 5 Panel
This panel was held during I Love IC Week which was sponsored by STAT. This panel featured 5 Ithaca graduates from each of the 5 schools who had graduated within the past 5 years. It was really informational to hear from these alumni about where they are in their lives right now and what they did after graduation. A lot of the alumni talked about making the most of their time at Ithaca and utilizing the many organizations we have on campus. It was good to hear this as a freshman because I was able to hear about what they would have done differently and learn from their experiences.
Community Building and Diversity
This session focused on the importance of individual identity within a college campus and in a community in general. At the beginning of the session we broke up into team and put together puzzles that depicted the theme of identity and community. We talked about the importance of respecting each other's identities and different views. In order to have a positive community we need to be able to accept the fact that other people may have different views than us, but realize that differences make our community diverse. This session reminded me that it is important to realize that others around you have a different set of ideals that are important to them and that make up their identity.
