This semester I attended a Service Saturday during which I volunteered at the annual AIDS Ride for Life. At this event bikers rode 100 miles throughout the Finger Lakes region to promote the awareness and understanding of AIDS. My job as a volunteer was to cheer on the bikers as they crossed the finish line. At first thought it may seem like an insignificant job, and I didn't really think that my efforts would really make a difference. However, after cheering on a few bikers I could tell how much they appreciated us being there for them as they crossed the finish line. After riding for so long I am sure that they enjoyed having people acknowledge all that they had accomplished. This event taught me that no matter how small you might think your efforts are, they may have a bigger impact on someone's life than you first realize. Encouraging others is a powerful thing that can make a difference in someone else's life as well as your own.
