RIDE ACROSS AMERICA !

Hi kids! Come on and join the ride across America!  The five of you are going on a bicycle race, a Tour de America.  You will be leaving from Bar Harbor, Maine, and traveling across our beautiful nation to the final destination of San Francisco, California.  Along the way you will be collecting valuable information at three other locations - Asheville, North Carolina; Black Hills, South Dakota; Grand Canyon, Arizona, to help you finish the race!

Below are five jobs that will need to be completed at each stop as you ride across America.  Each one of you will need to commit to one task.  The task, including a group pamphlet and presentation, will need to be completed according to the scoring rubric found at the bottom of this page.  Remember, you are part of a TEAM!  Do your best and the whole team will be a winner!

Historian - Collect information about the history of the area, i.e. when the city/site was founded/discovered, famous events that happened there.

Geographer - Collect data that will describe the geological makeup of the area.  Also, find information and describe the geographical makeup of the area, i.e. rivers, mountains, cities, etc.

Arts/Cultural Director - Collect information about the cultural events, sporting events, famous arts centers or artistic creations specific to the area.

Scientist - Collect information about the climate and weather typical of the area, animals that are native to the area, etc.

Mathematics Coordinator - complete an Excel spreadsheet that ties all the physical data together for reporting and comparing.
