Welcome to the English program at Anaheim High School. It is designed to provide a challenging course of study in English Language Arts to equip students with sustainable skills and knowledge in order to prepare them for college-level learning and workplace success. Our community of parents, students, and faculty provides support for students' academic and personal growth. This will be an exciting year as we move toward mastery of the English Language Arts standards in our journey to develop the skills and knowledge necessary for life.
This rigorous yet stimulating course will present new information, reinforce your strengths, and assist you in areas that need improvement. I am positive that if we work together as a team, we will have a successful year that will lay the foundation for life-long learning.
Course Goals
Upon completion of this course students will be able to:
- Read and respond critically to a wide variety of genres
- Analyze, evaluate, and organize information from a variety of sources
- Know when, why, and how to use literacy strategies
- Write effectively with voice for a variety of purposes and audiences
- Demonstrate effective communication—listening and speaking
- Employ critical thinking skills and strategies in all language arts areas
- Develop the skills necessary for successful performance on the California High School Exit Exam, California Standards Test, and other college preparatory exams
