Differentiating instruction to meet the needs of students in the classroom

Lesson Plan 1

Lesson plan 2 was a lesson that focused on determining the meaning of words and phrases. There are two included texts: Impressions of an Indian Childhood by Zitkala-Sa and Native American Homes from Read Works.  The second text accommodates students with a lower Lexile level, so lower students can work on the same skill with an appropriate text. There are also worksheets that will match lower reading levels included.

Incorporating technology into your instruction to enhance student learning

Lesson Plan 2

Lesson plan 3 identifies a stories overall theme.  Since students need a strong foundation of understanding of theme to be successful in this lesson, a PowerPoint presentation has been included for the direct instruction portion so students have a visual to follow.  This ensure visual students are supported.

Applying engaging and effective instructional strategies

Reading Comprehension Unit

The Reading Comprehension Unit utilizes various reading strategies such as determining the importance of text, compare-and-contrast, and using context clues.  This unit was highly engaging by how students interacted with the text using tools such as post-it notes, highlighters, and a graphic organizer.
