Lesson plan 2 was a lesson that focused on determining the meaning of words and phrases. There are two included texts: Impressions of an Indian Childhood by Zitkala-Sa and Native American Homes from Read Works. The second text accommodates students with a lower Lexile level, so lower students can work on the same skill with an appropriate text. There are also worksheets that will match lower reading levels included. |

Since students need a strong foundation of understanding of theme to be successful in this lesson, a PowerPoint presentation has been included for the direct instruction portion so students have a visual to follow. This ensure visual students are supported. |

The Reading Comprehension Unit utilizes various reading strategies such as determining the importance of text, compare-and-contrast, and using context clues. This unit was highly engaging by how students interacted with the text using tools such as post-it notes, highlighters, and a graphic organizer.
