Lancer Band

In the Fall Semester our Lancer Band creates a Field Show that is performed at the home football games.  The shows are very unique. We collaborate with our dance team, who creates a dance routine to our selected numbers, which allows us to concentrate on our music.  Consequently, unlike other high schools in Tucson, we have no outside of school rehearsals.  We do it all in our elective period in the school day!

In the Spring Semester our Lancer Band becomes our Symphonic Band.  We put on an Alumni Concert in March dedicated to our 10 year Band alumni.  They come as our special guests and we treat them like royalty as we perform for them and then reminisce about the good old days in the Band! Finally, we end our concert season with our Spring Concert in May, which ends in a very special ceremony for our departing seniors.

String Orchestra

We also have a String Orchestra Program here at Salpointe!  Our String Orchestra performs a concert at the end of each quarter.  The March Alumni Concert and the May Spring concert are performed with the symphonic Band, so the same themes as stated above apply to the String Orchestra.

In December, the entire Fine Arts Department puts on a Christmas Festival which includes Band, Orchestra, Chorus, Drama, Art, Ceramic, & Photography Expositions, and a very moving finale which combines the Band, Orchestra, and Choruses!

Jazz Band

JAZZ!!!!!!!!!!  Do you like Jazz?  We have one of the strongest, if not the strongest, Jazz Programs in Arizona.  We have 2 Jazz Bands.  We currently are the only high school in Tucson to have 2 Jazz Bands.  Our training Jazz Band is directed by Tucson’s premier jazz drummer, Pete Swan, and our performing Gold Jazz Band is directed by John Anzelmo.  Our performing Gold Jazz Band performs throughout the Tucson community the entire school year in addition to putting on a concert at the end of every quarter.  We also go into Jim Brady’s  recording studio 4 times a year and produce a CD at the end of the school year.  As if that’s not enough, the performing Gold Jazz Band goes on an out of state performing tour every spring.  We have performed at Steamers Jazz Club in Fullerton, CA opening for the Cal State Jazz Band, Dizzy’s Jazz Club in San Diego, CA opening for the UCSD Jazz Band, and Hackney’s Jazz Club in Chicago, IL opening for the Brass Tracks Big Band, a well know professional Jazz Band in the Chicago area.  We have also performed in Santa Fe, NM and San Francisco, CA.  So, if you are a jazz musician, this is the place to be!

Drumline

Drummers!  We have a Drumline that has their own elective period the entire school year.  It’s called “Percussion”.  Yes, it’s drummers only!  We play at the games, assemblies, etc.  We have an extensive repertoire of drum cadences for our performances.
