The purpose of this Toolbox is to demonstrate knowledge of how to educate learners with special needs so that students are serviced in the most appropriate way while remaining in compliance with what the laws have set forth in IDEA 2004.The charts that are available for viewing reflect knowledge of what a teacher can do to better educate a student with a special need and what placement may be appropriate.

This assignment shows mastery of the Arizona’s Professional Teaching Standard 9, Indicator 5 that requires the teacher to demonstrate current professional knowledge sufficient to effectively design and plan instruction, implement and manage instruction, create and maintain an appropriate learning environment, and assess student learning. The special education teacher participates in the design, implementation, and assessment of individualized education programs in order to develop a student’s abilities, which is imperative in the high school setting. In order to achieve this, the special education teacher needs to be knowledgeable of different special needs, available placement options for recommendation to the IEP team, and what teaching methods may work for the different needs of students. Indicator 5 requires teachers to use methods for recognizing and accommodating exceptional children. This toolbox is one method to achieve the mastery of Arizona’s Professional Teaching Standard 9.

Mastery of the USA- ISLLC - Standards for School Leaders (With Competencies) Standard 1, Area of Performance which states that a school administrator is an educational leader who promotes the success of all students by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community. By demonstrating knowledge of information sources, data collection, and data analysis strategies to ensure that the teacher is following state and federal special education laws, rules, and regulations. By maintaining a collection of resources, the educational leader promotes the success of all students by collaborating with families and community members, responding to diverse community interests and needs, and mobilizing community resources.

AZ- Arizona's Professional Teacher Standards
Standard 4: The teacher assesses learning and communicates results to students, parents and other professionals with respect to students'abilities to meet Arizona's academic standards.The performance assessment shall measure the extent to which the teacher:
Assessed performance 2: Uses a variety of appropriate formal and informal assessments aligned with instruction
Standard 8: The teacher demonstrates current professional knowledge sufficient to effectively design and plan instruction, implement and manage instruction, create and maintain an appropriate learning environment, and assess student learningThe professional knowledge assessment shall measure the extent to which the teacher has knowledge of:
Assessed performance 5: Methods for recognizing and accommodating exceptional children
Standard 9: In collaboration with other professionals and parents, the special education teacher participates in the design, implementation, and assessment of individualized education programsThe performance assessment shall measure the extent to which the special education teacher:
Assessed performance 4: Applies specialized diagnostic and assessment procedures to assist in determining special education eligibility for all areas of suspected disability

Lifelong Learning

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate knowledge of special education law, evaluation process, and resources that help to promote lifelong learning according to what the laws have set forth in IDEA 2004.This paper reflects series of events that help to formulate this process.

This assignment shows mastery of the Arizona’s Professional Teaching Standard 6, Indicator 1, which requires the teacher to demonstrate knowledge of state and federal special process to develop a plan of action for the successful transition of a student from home to school and then to the work environment if that is appropriate for the student. The special education teacher participates in the design, implementation, and assessment of individualized education programs in order to develop a student’s abilities, which is imperative in the high school setting. In order to achieve this, the special education teacher needs to be knowledgeable of state and federal special education laws, rules, and regulations. This must be achieved to meet the Arizona standards and the transition from school to work or post-secondary education. Indicator 5 requires that the teacher pursue professional activities to support development as a learner and a teacher in the form of advanced degree ascertainment through documented research.

Mastery of the USA- ISLLC - Standards for School Leaders (With Competencies) Standard 4, Area of Performance has also been demonstrated by knowledge of the success of all students by understanding, responding to, and influencing the larger political, social, economic, legal, and cultural context. This understanding is demonstrated through documented research of procedures as well as community resources available to schools as well as parents and students.

Assessed performance 1: Reviews his or her practices and evaluates the influences of his or her practices on student growth and learning
