A poem to Where I'm From
Where I am From: Poem
I’m from M.A.L.E.S which stands for
Michael, A’jah, London, Edith, and Sarah.
I’m from a place where the poor rob the wealthy
And where gangs shoot their own kind.
I’m from electronics and video games.
Where we play manhunt at night,
And duck duck goose in the morning.
I’m from magazines and books.
And went from Harry Potter and Goose Bumps,
To Walter Dean Myers and Zizou Corder.
Where the West meets the East and the East meets the West.
In the night I sleep and in the morning I play.
I’m from toys and drawings.
Where one day I dream of becoming an architect.
I’m from Barbeques and fast food,
Gatherings and ceremonies.
Where the old meet the young,
And the young learn from the old.
From VHS and plays to DVDs and CDS.
I’m from General Electric, where I have school and play.
I’m from June 4th, 1994 to where I am now.
From vacations and joyrides to becoming a Uncle
I’m from Baked Beans and Pasta Salad.
From getting chased by a turkey to eating turkey.
I'm from the morning sun and the evening shadows.
From Maple Heights and Garden Valley,
To a place to play at the park.
I’m from swimming and running to having asthma.
From killers and murders to lovers and friends.
I’m from meeting a business firm,
To job shadowing the firm.
From enemies and friends,
To play sisters.
This is where I’m from and how my life is lived.
