About Me

Fisher and I.jpeg

I'm very excited to be your teacher this year!  This is my second year here, before that, I was in a small village called Aniak where I taught for 5 years.  Thank you for making me feel so at home in the Mirror Lake Community.  This is a great place!

I was born in Virginia to a homesteader family.  Some would call them hippies, but they referred to themselves as "back-to-the-landers."  I attended a parent run Elementary school that was based off of Waldorf philosophies.  It was there that my love for learning began.  I was one of those students that loved to go to school.  As I got older, I received my high school diploma through a correspondence school so that I could work during the day.  After experiencing high school through a book with no one to ask questions and debate, I came to realize that teachers are a great gift to the learning process. Later when I started community collage is when I knew I wanted to become a teacher.  The guidance I received from so many caring teachers helped me to face my most challenging subjects and my own dyslexia.    I can only hope that as a teacher I can give the same guidance and foster my students success no matter what their endeavor.

I have traveled to many places including East Africa, Guatemala, Europe, New Zealand, and across the United States many times.  These enriching experiences have broadened my perspective on life and allowed me to have firsthand knowledge of different lands, cultures, and customs

Things I love to do.......

Berry Picking

I love the outdoors.  Whether it's summer or winter, from camping and hiking to skiing and snow machining, being outside invigorates me.  I keep active through running, yoga, and whenever possible I swim.  I especially enjoy gardening.  I grew up growing my own food and continue to do so here in Alaska.
