Moving forward, I am focusing less on the research aspect of YLYS and working more on the hands-on, interactive piece. I was fortunate to receive a Student Learning Assistant (SLA) scholarship over the summer to continue my work and focus not only on the part that I prefer but also on the part that will better serve me. After my direct supervisor at Fairbanks moved to a new job, I assumed a great deal of additional responsibilities to help pick up the slack. Therefore, I did much more logistical work than research work, which suits me.

My major project for my SLA position was developing a new choice activity at camp based on theatre. There are many choice activities, including music, art, yoga, dance, technology, and storytelling. This year, I added theatre to that list. Each day of camp has a theme, e.g. The Call, The Vision, The Conflict, etc. I applied this framework to a performance-based curriculum, incorporating all kinds of performance art, e.g. juggling, movement, acting, etc. led the session at camp.
