I submit the Assessment and Teaching Sample which I successfully implemented during 3rd quarter student teaching during January of 2012 in a first grade classroom. This is a strong level IV artifact in that it is demonstrative of my ability to target specific needs of children, research methods which will best suit their needs, and to implement highly effective strategies which will enable the child to be successful. I contend the success of the child is the ultimate goal of assessment.
I submit a component of the Assessment and Teaching Sample from student teaching in January 2012 to demonstrate my competency in observation, documentation, and other appropriate assessment tools and approaches. I contend that this is a strong level IV artifact because I created, developed and implemented the assignment to fit the children within the first grade classroom which I was student teaching.
In order to demonstrate a level IV artifact for the element of standard 3d, I submit an Integrated Thematic Unit on Magnetism. I contend that this artifact supports my ability to effectively target goals and benefits of developmentally appropriate assessment. In this unit there were many hands on learning activities which support active engagement within multiple learning styles in order to meet the learning needs of all the children. I contend that this meets the standard and demonstrates my ability to collaborate with the families and the other paraprofessionals within the classroom community which I experienced in my student teaching placement.
To demonstrate evidence of partnerships with families, professionals, and to demonstrate an understanding of successful assessment strategies, I submit artifacts from student teaching in January of 2012. I contend that these artifacts demonstrate my efforts to positively influence and maintain working relationships with other professionals as well as the families I serve. I chose the materials list of a thematic unit, evidence of collaboration with my cooperating teacher, and the thematic unit outline as evidence responsible partnerships to meet this standard.
