This written piece correlates with the ACEI Standard 1 as it demonstrates my ability to understand and implement concepts, principles, theories, and research related to child development in order for children to develop intrinsic motivation for learning.  I discussed what I contend to be the three most compelling points of Patricia Ramsey's book Teaching and Learning in a Diverse World: Multicultural Education for Young Children and apply these points through observation and reflection during a 4th grade practicum setting in the Spring of 2011. Ramsey shares with the reader highly diverse classroom experience and her personal thoughts on how she perceived situations throughout her career. The opportunity to observe, interact, and reflect during my practicum strongly reinforced my desire to earn New York State Teacher Certification.  While the process is strenuous its rewards are worth it.
