FAQs

Q: What do I do if I left my packet at home/can't find it?
A: In class, look for it and check the lost and found. If you still can't find it, get out a sheet of paper to write on for the day. You may staple the paper into your packet when you find it.

Q: What if I have lost my packet?
A: After you have looked everywhere, (1) see if there is a copy in the extra papers shelf, then since there won't be extras (2) print off another copy AT HOME.

Q: Do you accept late work?
A: Yes, but you will not receive full credit. (science articles are the exception).

Q: What is a science article?
A: Each quarter, you must find a current (last 2 years) article about science (any branch) to read, summarize, and report to the class. You must have a copy of the article, 1 PAGE written (or typed) summary, and present at the beginning of class. Since you have all quarter to complete this assignment, I will not accept any articles after the last day of the quarter. (Get it done early) A maximum of 5 articles can be presented in one day.

Q: What are inquiry labs?
A: Rather than one science project, we do an inquiry lab each quarter. Choose your groups wisely. You will design and perform your lab and present it as a powerpoint. Use the template provided for requirements and hints. If you lose your class privileges, the labs must be done at home. You must have pictures proving your experiement, a properly labeled graph; the other portions of the report are included on the template.

Q: What happens if you lose class privileges?
A: You have chosen to work by yourself, with a book rather than the various labs, internet, and group assignments that the rest of the class is doing. You can lose privileges through misbehavior or lack of preparation/effort. It would take pages to list all the specific options...you've been in school long enough to know the rules.

Q: Why are there two grades for each topic?
A: One for all the class work (packet) and the other for the test.

Q: What do I need to bring to class?
A: Packet, pencil, book, jump drive, colored pencils, camera (on inquiry days), self, working brain and great attitude!

Q: How often do you give quizzes? Can I retake them?
A: At least one quiz will be given in the middle of each packet. Plan on either a test or a quiz each week. Generally, you may not retake quizes.

Q: Will we do dissections? What? When?
A: Yes. Check the calendar.

Q: How come my grade is a _____?
A: Because you did not turn something in, need to finish your work or retake a test.

Q: Can I retake a test?
A: Yes, My policy for retakes is :
One retake, within one week and only with proof of additional preparation (such as an outline or flash cards of the material).
The grade received will be the retake grade, whether it is higher or lower.
This is a policy shared by all of our 7th grade science teachers.

Q: How do I retake a test?
A: You must show me proof of your extra study time. For example, Study/review in my room, bring in your review cards or sheet, etc.
Retakes may be done before or after school Tues., Wed., or Thurs. or during CaveTime - NOT during class and NOT the same day you origianlly took the quiz or test.

Q: Do I have to turn in my packet on the due date?
A: Yes. Even if you were absent or did not finish. You get ONE more time to redo your packet. Please see question on late work.

Q: What did we do while I was gone?
A: Missed you, maybe even cried a little, but don't just come ask me, check the calendar.

Q: What if mI want to contribute extra money to our own class?
A: Excellent question! Click this link http://alpineschools.org/foundation/ to go to the Alpine District Foundation page for a tax deduction that will help your child!
