Students need to be introduced to different genres and types of literature academically as well as personally. Students need to see that there are different ways to read and enjoy literature and that as long as they give different types a shot, it is perfectly ok that they prefer some more than others. I have completed several reviews of childrens books from different genres. It was very beneficial and eye opening to analyze the differences between these books.
