Jesus and the Scriptures Grading Procedures

Your semester grade will be computed on a percentage of a points system.  For example from chapter tests, homework, in class assignments, projects, and pop quizzes a student might earn a maximum of 1300 points.  Letter grades will be assigned following the stated policy in the “Parent & Student Handbook.    If a student earns 90% or more of the total points they will receive an A.  If a student earns between 80% & 89% of the total points, they will receive a B.  If a student earns between 70% & 79% of the total points they will earn a C.  If a student earns between 60 & 69% of the total points, they will receive a D.  Students who earn below 60% of the total points will receive an F.

Quizzes will usually be given over each chapter covered in the textbook and all corresponding material covered in class.  There is material in the textbook that we will not cover in class, which you will be tested on.   You will receive a cumulative final exam worth 200 points.

Written homework assignments will be given one or twice a week.  Homework assignments are worth between 10 points to 40 points each.  Value of the assignment is dependent upon the length of the assignment, and the work required of the student in completing the assignment.  I will grade your homework according to the following guidelines:  How correctly and thoroughly you have responded to the assignment, penmanship, and spelling.  Late assignments will be accepted for one week after an assignment has been collected for half credit.

A one subject notebook is required for this class.  Notebooks will be collected periodically during the semester.  When notebooks are collected grades will be given on notes taken as well as journal entries.  Note taking should be done during all lectures and presentations given by the instructor, during all student presentations, and during all media presentations.  By taking notes students have a permanent record of material covered in the course.  The notes will also aide students in completing course work, studying for tests, and serve as a source of ideas for follow up by the students.

Students will be required to enter a minimal one and half page journal entry for each student presentation given.  In these journal entries students will reflect on any points given during the student presentation or the follow up material covered by the instructor.  Finally students will state what they will do with the new information which they have been presented.  That is what action you will take as a result of this material.

If a student is ever caught cheating on an assignment, test, or quiz they will not receive any credit for the assignment in which they have cheated.  Copying another student’s work is considered grounds for losing credit for an assignment.

Students will be able to earn extra credit by leading the class in a prayer.  Students who would like additional extra credit may approach the instructor to discuss what other possibilities might be available.  Students will not be able to use extra credit to turn a B grade into an A grade.  No extra credit work will be accepted the last two weeks of the quarter.

We will cover the following areas of the Christian Scriptures:  Who do you say Jesus is?, Who wrote the Gospels, The World of Jesus, Infancy Narratives, Apostles, Kingdom of God, Parables of Jesus, Miracles of Jesus, Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus, Acts of the Apostles, Paul.
