Jesus and Scriptures Syllabus

Monday August 23      Students reporting on their findings in class from research done on assigned synoptic Gospel passage.

Tuesday August 24     Sister Helen Rau presenting in class about the counseling program for sophomores.

Wed/Thur Block Aug 25/26        Introduction to the infancy narratives, in class assignment on infancy narratives, power point on the infancy narratives.

Friday August 27         Watching Jesus of Nazareth Infancy Narratives section.

Monday August 30     Students finish watching Jesus of Nazareth Infancy Narratives.  As students are watching the video they are to keep a list of occurrences from the movie, that move beyond the literal text of the Bible.

Tuesday August 31    Students have a quiz on the infancy narratives.  Students turn in their assignment listing the ways that the movie Jesus of Nazareth, moves beyond the literal text.  We will also have in class discussion, on what point Jesus knew he was God.

Wed/Thur Block September 1 & 2    Students will be learning about John the Baptist, and the sacrament of Baptism.       

Friday September 3  Students will be learning about the temptations of Jesus.  Students will be writing a reflection on the temptations.

Tuesday September 7  Students will be introduced to the concept of the Kingdom of God, also known as the Reign of God.

September 8/9    Students are taking a quiz on John the Baptist, Temptations of Jesus, and the Sacrament of Baptism.  Students are working in small groups in developing a presentation on an assigned area from Chapter 6 from the textbook.  Chapter 6 deals with the concept "The Kingdom of God".

September 10      Students will be going to the computer lab to work on a power point for their small group presentation on their assigned area from chapter 6 of the textbook.

September  13     Small group presentation on the Twelve Apostles and Woman who followed Jesus.

September  14     Small group presentations on  "Dream of Jesus   The Kingdom of God"  Pages  129 - 133,  and "Jesus Understanding of God"  Pages 134 - 137.

September 15/16  Small group presentations on  "Jesus Understanding of the Command to Love"  Pages 137 - 141, and "The Reign of God"  Pages 141 - 143.

September 17   Small group presentation on "The Kingdom Fulfilled"  Pages  143 - 146.  Formation of parable small groups and explanation on parable small group assignment. 

September 20   Library Day to research assigned Parable passages.

September 21   Teacher power point presentation on the parables of Jesus.

 September 22/23 Quiz on Kingdom of God Chapter 6. Assigned Homework: Students are to type a one page essay on a time in which they were parabled. This is assignment is due on Tuesday September 27. Assigned Homework: Students are to create a modern day mirror parable. This assignment is to be typed and is due September 29. Students will be watching the video Jesus of Nazareth in class.

September 24 Student small group presentation on the parable of the Good Samaritan. Students will be watching a video called the Good Samaritan. Students will be writing a journal entry on the Good Samaritan.

September 27 Student small group presentation on the parable of the Unforgiving Servant. Students will be writing a journal entry on this parable.

September 28 Student small group presentation on the Parable of the Prodigal Son. Students will be watching a video on the Prodigal Son. Students will be writing a journal entry on this parable.

September 29/30 Students will be having a school presentation on the Invisible Children.

October 1 Students small group presentation on the Parable of the Lost Sheep. Students will be watching a video on the Lost Sheep. Students will be writing a journal entry on this parable.
 

October 4  Students presentation on the parable of Rich Man and Lazarus, followed by teacher instruction.  Students will write a journal entry on this parable.

October 5/6  Student presentaion on the Parable of the Lost Sheep, followed by teach instruction on this parable.  Students will write a journal entry on this parable.

October 7    Student presentation on the parable of the talents.  Students will be watching a video on this parable.  Student first quarter journals are due.

October 14  Students presentation on the Parable of the 10 virgins, followed by teacher instruction on the parable.

October 15   Quiz on the Parables of Jesus.  Teacher presentation on the miracles of Jesus.

October 18  Student presentation of Jesus turning water into wine, followed by teacher instruction.

October 19  Student presentation on the Miracle of the Loaves and Fishes, followed by teacher instruction.

October 20/21  Student presentation on the Healing of the man born blind, followed by teacher instruction.

October 22  Student presentation on the Healing of the boy with a demon, followed by teacher instruction.

 

November 1  Finish watching the movie Jesus

November 2  Review for Chapter 8 Miracles Quiz

November 3 & 4  Student presentation on the Raising of Lazarus

November 5  Quiz on the Miracles of Jesus

November 8   Go over last Friday's Quiz

November 9 & 10 Small group work on Palm Sunday thru Good Friday as it relates to the Scriptures

November 12  Library Day to finalize preparations for student presentations on the last week of Jesus

November 15  Student Presentation on Jesus' entry into Jerusalem

November 16   Student Presentation on the Cleansing of the Temple

November 17  Student Presentation on Jesus Washing of the Disciples Feet

November 18  Student Presentation on the Lord's Supper

November 19, 22, & 23   Students will be watching the movie "The Passion of Christ"

November 29  Student Presentation on the Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus

November 30  Student Presentation of Jesus before the Sanhedrin

December 1  Student Presentation on The Trail before Pilate

December 2  Student Presentation on the Crucifixion of Jesus

December 6  Student Presentation on the Death of Jesus

December 7 & 8  Teacher Presentation on the Resurrection of Jesus

December 9 & 10  Review for the Semester Exam

December 13 - 16  Students take final exam according to the school semester exam schedule
