Through my research project on language acquisition, I was assigned with a group of fellow classmates to present a PowerPoint presentation to my Culturual Diversity in Education course. In addition to this task, my group and I had to create a handout and activity for our peers to complete. We first gave our classmates the handout with corresponding questions in Spanish, putting them in the situation that many English Language Learners face daily. After a few minutes of trying to interpret the assignment, we gave our peers the same exact activity in English. This experience was very effective, for it gave future teachers to opportunity to experience what their future students’ struggling with language barriers will face. Attached is the PowerPoint along with the handout and questions in Spanish and English we used during this moving activity.
