What is an IEP, 504 Plan, WRAT, or learned helplessness?  Before embarking on my journey through my Introduction to the Exceptional Learner course at Chandler-Gilbert Community College I was clueless to what these term were.  Through taking this course, however, I have learned the meaning of these terms as well as many other aspects to special education.  Not only was I taught the process that parents and educators  go through with special needs children, but also what special needs I can expect to see in my future classroom.  I discovered the adaptations that I will need to make for my special needs students and how to better work with each of them according to their disabilities.  From working with special needs children in an inclusion setting classroom through service learning, I had the opportunity to personally witness some of these special needs.  Now that I have been introduced to the exceptional learner, I am more prepared to work with special needs students in my future classroom.
