Global Inequality in Education

As my formal schooling on the topic of global inequality comes to an end, my personal research in the field is only beginning. As I finish my undergraduate degree, I am moving forward to pursue a Master's degree in elementary education, which is why my interest educational inequality is so prominent. Inequalities in education, while they have been diminishing, are still a large issue world wide especially in developing nations. The inequalities can be shown by using an Educational Gini Coefficient, which measures the inequalities on a scale of zero to one (0 = complete equality, 1 = complete inequality). Vinod Thomas, Yan Wang, and Xibo Fan established this coefficient to determine how large the inequalities are between countries' education systems, and found that education Gini Index is actually higher in countries where educational attainment is lower, which is often times in third world or developing nations. Given the findings, my interest in global education inequality has peaked and I am excited to learn more about the subject.
