With knowledge that the education Gini coefficient represents the inequalities in education globally, it is important to look at countries where these mass inequalities are most notable. According to Mint, a prominent newspaper in India, over 266 million people in the country cannot read or write, and over 12 million children are not being educated. For comparison, the United States has only 32 million people who are illiterate. Even accounting for the fact that India has a much greater population than the United States, percentage wise, over 20% of India is illiterate compared to 10% of Americans.
