Global Inequalities

Final Words

When I enrolled in this course I was not sure exactly what to expect, but the things that have come out of it will stick with me through the remainder of my time as both a student and future educator. I have learned so much about the state of the world in terms of inequality, in aspects of society that I never would have thought about without being prompted by this class. I feel that by covering the topics we did, I have a much better understanding of where I stand in this world, and my perspectives on how I view inequalities that others face that I may never have too. Being able to read articles and watch documentaries that allow me to see the world from different viewpoints than my own gave me so much insight to things that I was unable to see prior to this. I feel that I have become a more informed individual, more aware of the inequalities that exist around me and effect people of all different backgrounds.

My learning experience was one that was different from most classes I have taken. The environment in the classroom was one that accepted all different ideas, while at the same time challenging them. I felt that ideas could be shared without criticism or judgement, and that the environment allowed for open discussion even on sensitive topics. Having the opportunity to express thoughts without fear of backlash, but rather being challenged to see further than our own views was extremely enriching.

As a whole, I am walking away from this class with a better knowledge of not only the world, but myself as well. To understand and recognize the inequalities that exists takes both time and patience, and I believe the the time I have spent learning in this class has helped me to do this. Inequalities are ever present in societies spanning the world, and my knowledge of this will better help me to make a small footprint in the push towards equality.
