Heidi's ANNOTATION for Media Project #1

a) Creators/Authors of the Media Project.

Heidi Bennett

b) Identified Grade Level(s)

I used MS word and created an acrostic poem using my name and I am going to use this activity with the fourth grade class that I am observing.   I also made an educational handout using MS word about why it's important to wash your hands, and I am going to make a copy for everyone in my fourth grade class to have.  I used MS Publisher to create an October calendar to hang up in the classroom for my students to look at. I added important dates such as birthdays and holidays. I also added fun events for the students to learn about such as National Children's Day.

c) Subject matter: Does integration of subject matters take place? What is (are) the subject matter(s)?

Yes integration of subject matter takes place in each of the projects that I created.  The acrostic poem uses vocabulary, computer skills, and creativity. The educational handout I created used vocabulary, science, history, and computer skills.  The calendar I created used computer skills, math, creativity, history, and vocabulary.

d) List one or two goals/objectives for this project.

Creating these projects has made me realize how important it is to make eye catching fliers and calendars.  It makes children want to read what is on the flier, and it's a great way for students to learn about important events.  These projects let you be creative, and you learn new things as you go.  The goal is to use and learn about the special features that are offered on MS word, and Publisher.  Many of the features I am going to need and use in my future teaching career.

e) In what ways do you foresee could this project facilitate kids learning in your classroom? Will this media project encourage use of problem solving skills by the learner? If so, in what ways?

The acrostic poem I created would be an example to students, and I would want them to be as creative as possible when they create their poem. This fun project lets children brainstorm, and use describing words. I think that children will use problem solving skills by having to think of words that describes something about them, and thinking of a word that starts with a specific letter.  I think that children would learn a lot of new vocabulary from this project because they would have to come up with creative describing words, and they would also be able to see the other types of words that their classmates used in their poem. I also think that the students could have a vocabulary test the next week, and take one describing word from each of the students poems.

f) The link to the product (s) (eg. the URL for VoiceThread or the URL for iMovie on YouTube) if any.

I used this link to see some of the acrostic poem examples that children did http://college.holycross.edu/faculty/dhummon/acrostics/north_south_america.html

I also used thesaurus to come up with words that I used in my acrostic poem.

g) What kind of file (.docx, .pdf, .wmv, .mp3, .m4v ... ) is the product? What plug-in is needed to view the product and where to download the plug in?

All of the files that I created are .pdf, and I learned how to change a word document to a .pdf.  When I saved my projects a box came up and I labeled the name of the project, and then used a drop down box and selected .pdf for each of my documents.
