Welcome to Standard 2.3: Mathematics section of my online portfolio. In this section, I have included artifacts from my Childhood Education preparation program to show that I have met the standard.

I have included a math lesson plan called "The 3 M's," and it is about mean, median, and mode. I was required to create a lesson plan that used differentiation throughout it. The math lesson was about averages, and in my host classroom a few students were struggling with this topic. This lesson hopefully would help them understand average in different way, and I used a hands on approach to teach this. This lesson will benefit all students in the classroom, and I have also met the mathematics standards with this lesson plan. 

By completing this artifact, I have learned how important it is to create lessons that will be beneficial to all students, even the students with learning disabilities. I also have learned that it is very important to match the learning objectives with what you expect the children to learn. Math lesson plan can be tough to teach, but this lesson is set up in way that all people can benefit from it. I stayed away from worksheets out of a textbook, and created my own worksheet. Students learn best when they are involved in the lesson, and I think my lesson encourages students to touch and play with the materials used to describe what average is.
