African Americans-PowerPoint

Kids (Lg.)

Rationale:

Context:  I developed this powerpoint in my Diversity class, under the advisement of Dr. Clark, during the Fall semester 2007 at Appalachian State University.

Impact:  This powerpoint shows many different aspects of African Americans.  The powerpoint discusses key topics of statistics, history, traditions, etc.  This powerpoint allows me to show students, through the use of technology, key areas of interest and investigations.

Alignment:  This powerpoint aligns with the North Carolina standards for elementary teachers.

Standard 11:  Elementary teachers connect social studies with the broad curriculum.

Indicator 3:  I met this indicator by developing a powerpoint that enhances the social studies lesson and heightens student involvement within the lesson.

Indicator 5:  I met this indicator by collecting data and organizing the data through the use of a powerpoint.  The powerpoint had many different types of statistics and information that shown through the use of tables and graphs.

Standard 14:  Elementary teachers develop strategies to address topics that are controversial to diverse groups.

This standard was met by introducing and discussing key topics of interest about the African American population.  History and taboos were also discussed that can be controversial to other groups of the population.
