Cultural Report Analysis
I learned so much this semester in my Learner Diversity class. I was given a great deal of information that I can take to my own future classroom. I really didn't know what to expect walking into class the first time. I knew that addressing multicultural issues was important but I really didn't know how to implement them in the classroom.
The class really helped me to understand different ways of addressing cultural issues in my own classroom. I can now see the differences of cultures that I probably would have overlooked. Things like understanding how important family is to the Hispanic population has helped me greatly. Without this class, I would have never known how important family is to the Hispanic population. Teachers must be sensitive to issues such as this. I also didn't realize how I even had stereo-typical views of some cultures. I never realized it but I thought of Asian children as "extremely" intelligent. That's not always the case. I've learned to be more aware of my own views of others and to be more sensitive to those areas.
The cultural database and the class has helped learn ways that I can foster the many cultures in my own classroom. I now know how important it is to teach and inlighten other children with information of the many different cultures in our country today. Children need to be exposed to many cultures in the classroom to better understand the views and religions of everyone. This class has given me the knowledge to develop a classroom that will address these issues.
