Lorax

Rationale:

Context:  I developed this list of questions under the advisement of my science professor Dr. Jeff Goodman at Appalachian State University, during the spring semester of 2008.

Impact:  These questions were designed to engage students' interest into the Lorax video.  These questions will help to tap into students' prior knowledge and also get them more involved in discussion questions.  These questions will also set the expectations for the students.

Alignment:  This assignment aligns with the North Carolina standards for elementary educators.

Standard 3:  Elementary teachers have a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in science.

Indicator 1:  I met this indicator by designing several questions around a well-known Dr. Seuss book/video called The Lorax.  These questions were developed with the function of plants and animals in mind.

Indicator 3:  I met this indicator by using the knowledge I have of earth science to develop questions that will encourage students to (figure) out the answers throughout the video.

Standard 10:  Teachers provide active inquiry experiences in the teaching of science by using various questioning skills and developing science processing skills (predicting, classifying, measuring, inferring, interpreting, analyzing, and synthesizing.)

I met this standard by developing several questions that will help students predict, classify, inferr, interpret, and analyze key areas within the video.
