Field Trip

Protect the Earth (Lg.)

Field Trip Rationale

Context: This field trip was taken during Block II, in my GS 4401 class, during the Spring semester of 2008.

Impact: As a future teacher, I will take students on many different field trips. Students will be exposed to things that they may have never visited before. I developed several different questions for students to answer aftering visiting the landfill in Watauga County, North Carolina.

Alignment: This field trip and set of questions satisfy the requirements for the North Carolina Elementary School Teachers by the following:

Standard 3: Elementary teachers have a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in science.

Indicator 1: I met this indicator by seeing the relationship between humans, organisms, and the environment. I was able to better understand the different processes that materials are broken down to. I also was better informed on the recycling process and it affects on the earth.

Standard 4: Elementary teachers have a broad knowledge and understanding of the major concepts in social studies.

Indicator 13: I met this indicator by seeing how, we as individuals, can all benefit the earth by recycling. I will be more capable of teaching my own future students the importance of being a responsible citizen by recycling.
