Student Interview Protocol

1.  What do you like about coming to school?  Working on school work and seeing my friends.

2.  Is there anything you dislike about school?  What do you like about your classroom?  I hate writing but I like to read.  I like the posters and drawings in our classroom.

3.  Tell me about your best experience at school?  Mrs. Koon (the resource teacher)  She is very nice to me.

4.  Is there a particular subject/content area that is your favorite?  What do you like about it?  Reading-Because of the AR tests.  If you make the goal you get to go to cool places and have parties.

5.  Is there anything during the day that you find tougher than other areas?  The last part of the day is hardest.  You have to work on centers (Math, Science, Spelling).  If you don't get finished you have to walk laps and they call your mom or dad.

6.  What about that content/task do you find difficult?  Getting my work done.

7.  What assists you in your learning?  Modification of the question:  Can you think of something the teacher does that makes a topic easier to understand?  I think seeing the words and figuring it out for myself is easier.  When Mr. Tanner draws it out, it confuses me.

8.  When you are working in the classroom, are you working by yourself or do you work with a partner?  Does working alone or with someone help you learn more?  Why do you feel that ------ helps you learn more?  Sometimes I have a partner and I like it because they explain it slower to me.

9.  Could you tell me how you learned to read?  My second grade teacher really helped me.  She took things slower.  She didn't always rush me.

10.  Do you like to read?  What kinds of books do you enjoy reading?  Are there specific books that you have to read in your class?  Do you get to pick your own books to read?  Yes, I like Junie B. Jones.

11.  What kind of activities do you do during math class?  Do you enjoy math?  Why or why not?  A whole lot of worksheets, but if you get it all done then you get to do a fun project.

12.  Do you have many friends?  Yes, I have two but their not in my room.

13.  What is your favorite subject?  Reading

14.  Do you learn a lot about Science and Social Studies?  No, not really.
