Civics

Unit 1:  Civics: The Constitution:  Principles and Structures of American Democracy

The unit on civics will provide the students an opportunity to understand both the principles and structures of the American Democracy.  Building this foundation will help them become well-rounded citizens of the 21st Century.  The unit on civics not only focuses on the structure and purpose of government but also how the United States was founded and how our government is structured the way it is.   The students will have an opportunity to learn about the United States Constitution and how it affects their lives.  A study of the Bill of Rights will help them understand their rights and freedoms as they become young adults.   Finally, the students will gain an appreciation of what it means to be "civically minded".
