Quality and Safety

Quality and Safety are pertinent to nursing practice. To me it means taking the time to learn how to complete a process or procedure the right way, causing the least harm to the patient. For example, taking the time to complete competencies in nursing school for blood draw, taught us how to take the time to complete the task safely and effectively. In the same respect, the Professional Roles and Values paper helped me to reflect on my role as a nurse and how I would uphold my role according to the nursing Code of Ethics. While writing that paper, was when I first realized how I could utilize The Nursing Code of Ethics to provide quality and safety for every patient I encounter.

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) taught me how to integrate quality and safety in my everyday nursing ractice.  IHI is a leading innovator, convener, partner, and driver of results in health and health care improvement world wide (Institute for Healthcare Improvement, 2015).  The courses provided by IHI helped give me the confidence and knowledge necessary to effectively divliver safe, quality nursing care to my patients. The IHI certificate provides proof that I have completed the IHI course will give my future employers confidence that I take pride in providing safe, quality care. I will use the knowledge gained to enhance my role as a professional nurse.
