Priscilla strives to become a better musician everyday. The artifacts attached are only a mere sample of what she does on a day to day basis during her musical training at FIU. She accompanies students, teaches, and performs. She is in the process of learning a secondary instrument (trumpet). She is fairly new at this instrument, but looks forward to learning proper techniques and the basics of some other brass instruments. Priscilla receives private voice lessons with Dr. Kathleen Wilson as well. She studied piano with Dr. Nancy Luzko and Dr. Jose Lopez.
The Performance Practice paper is an example of the research Priscilla did in regards to the history of the keyboard fingerings for the piano concentrating on J.S. Bach's Prelude and Fugue no. 6 in d minor. Also, there is a theory assignment that is an example of her understanding of basic harmonic functions from one of the Music Theory classes. Priscilla feels quite comfortable with tonal theory and actually enjoys and appreciates the subject. There are videos portraying her accompanying skills with instrumental students and of herself playing on the piano, her principal instrument. She chose to play Nocturne No. 5 in B-flat major by Field because the composer practically created the genre of the nocturne and in turn influenced many composers to follow like Chopin and Liszt. Her abilities to lead a group in song are also evident as she taught her peers a song during a peer teach. She would like to have the oppurtunity to do this more often in order to gain more experience in this area, especially with more diverse age groups. There is also a short video of her teaching beginning orchestra during her internship at Palmetto Middle School.
