Priscilla has attended the Florida Music Educator's Association Conference in Tampa for the past three years. Last year, the collegiate chapter of MENC had the oppurtunity to present a professional workshop: "How to Create Meaningful Experiences in Your Chapter." With the help of Dr. Kathleen Kerstter, the advisor, we were able to present to the other chapters in Florida the activities FIU's CMENC does year round, the fundraisers organized, and upcoming events, which included the Grand Cayman Summer Music Workshop. During the FMEA conference, Priscilla attends many clinics and workshops all geared toward professional development to become a better music teacher.
Last year she was also selected to represent the FIU School of Music in Tallahassee for Arts Day on March 24th, 2010; she received the Student Advocacy Award. Priscilla was able to speak with many of our state representatives and senators to try to gain their support for the arts in Florida. She met the Secretary of State, Kurt S. Browning, as well as the directors/chairs of the Florida Arts Council and other arts organizations throughout the state, including James Perry, the past FMEA Executive Director.
