It is important for teachers, and all people to stay updated with the latest news and technologies available to them. Electronic whiteboard and eboards have replaced chalkboards and black & green boards. There are many websites available to do this, but the eSchool News website is very thorough and specific to the field of education. Their articles are brief, easy, quick reads for overworked and eye-strained teachers. Searches and top articles are easily accessed and best of all the site is free. They have the "Top Technology News for Today's K-20 Educator" as their logo states, provided at a glance, as well as those top stories from other websites, and sorted by subject/topic area, at a glance, on the home page. Please see below for a link to eSchool news website.
I picked the attached article to talk about in September, 2008. The article is about Intel's third generation Classmate PC, a rugged, durable, water resistant, energy efficient, low cost PC marketed and developed specifically for the K-8 student. I chose this article to let my fellow future teachers know about the technologies that are currently available and designed specifically for our future students. I believe it is a real possibility that within the next 5 years, each child in my classroom will be sitting in front of a computer and/or a laptop that they use instead of binders, folders and notebooks. In addition, it enabled me to let them know about the One Laptop Per Child initiative and the Get One, Give One program, wherein you could buy a low-cost XO laptop for your child for $399 and a second one is donated to a child in a developing country. Please see below for the current program.
