Hello! I'm Rachel. I'm from Cedar Rapids, Iowa and will be graduating from Loyola in May with a B.S. in Biology. I will be taking a year off before attending physical therapy school to pursue my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. I decided on a career in physical therapy because I am someone that loves taking on new challenges. I chose to come to Loyola without knowing anyone as a way to challenge myself. Being in a new environment on my own was exciting to me. For similar reasons I chose to study abroad in Madrid and live with a host family. I believe doing something new that challenges yourself is the only way to grow as a person and as a professional. I see this same philosophy of thought in the field of physical therapy. Each patient you treat is a new puzzle, a new challenge. Diagnosing, designing treatment plans, and innovating rehabilitative methods provide endless opportunities for further education and growth throughout my career.
As a rehabilitation aide my leanring objectives for the semester included:
I've included pictures of my family as well as my host family I had when I studied abroad in Madrid. My family has always supported me and I continue to turn to them for advice. I really wouldn't be who I am today without them. My host family also gave me support when I was in Madrid. They were so welcoming and quickly became some of my closest friends. Several of them are also going to school for physical therapy and helped me make the decision to pursue a career in physical therapy as well.
