Instructions and guidelines are provided in TaskStream to enable candidates to complete the application and to determine eligibly for the appropriate clinical experience course. See course descriptions below.
Requests for placement will be processed in the order in which they are received. To assist the placement officers in this effort, please complete all required information on TaskStream. No action on your application will be taken, and no final determination of which clinical experience course is your correct placement will be made until all required documents have been submitted.
This course is for those candidates with no teaching experience. The candidate will have student teaching experiences at both levels of the certificate sought, on a full time basis for the full semester. (This is a volunteer, not a paid experience.) For candidates seeking dual certification, one of the placements will include working with students with disabilities in a collaborative, inclusion, or other designated special education classroom or setting. Candidates are also required to attend the weekly seminar course offered at the college and must meet the academic criteria set forth in the course syllabus.
This course is for candidates who are currently working as fulltime teaching assistants or paraprofessionals in a classroom. Per diem substitutes and teacher aides are not eligible to register for this course. For any unmet teaching experiences at the level of the certificate being sought, a Mercy College field supervisor will be assigned to observe you teaching at least twice during the semester.
