Standard 15

Indicator 1

Artifacts: student teaching, Hispanic Spiritual beliefs lesson and the Music lesson an African music all below. Observations of diverse learners

Context:

Standard 14

Indicator 1 was met through several parent teacher meetings about the progress of their child. It was a priority to respect and understand the families values and beliefs and their attitude about the educational process.

Indicator 2 arguments about personal topics of interest were not allowed but a discussion could be prompted and handled in a respectful manner.

indicator 3 classroom management rules and techniques were consistently put into place to give rational solutions to problems.

Indicator 4 all outlets were explored when working with children with diverse background and families ; as well as learning styles. Programs are put in place in many schools systems to accommodate those children and I got to see and help implement some of these in my student teaching such as ESL, Title 1 , EC, etc.

Indicator 5 - again classroom rules and management techniques are use. Workshops were given on these topics that helped as well.

Indicator 6 teaching children about all different cultures and getting everyone involved is a great way to help the diverse groups of children all over to learn. I experienced alot of this in student teaching.

Standard 15

Indicator 1 was met through personal attention given to the 3 Hispanic students in my kindergarten class during student teaching at Sparta Elementary School. They were out of the class in the mornings for ESL and I would use nap time to catch them up on Math, Reading and Science lessons missed during the morning - We would have a mini lesson in a small group. Each day they would only miss one class and the rest they would have as group with he class. Each day a King or King was chosen and Each month a student of the month was chosen and many times a child from an under represented group would be chosen.

Impact/Alignment: I believe the many lesson we did during student teaching covered these topics and issues. I also did a lesson on Hispanic beliefs and African music that would do well in teaching diversity in an educational and entertaining way.
