Confirmation class is a very speicial and unique class. Confirmation, along with Baptism and Eucharist, is a Sacrament of Initiation. Initiation is not preparation. Rather, initiation means not only comming to know the Church and its story but also comming to full faith in that community. This is called catechesis or conversion. Initiation presupposes a community. Through Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist we are taken into the community of the Church. The Sunday (Parish) community is central to this process. We ask the student not only to attend class but to be an active member of his/her parish, where catechesis takes place. Catechesis is not something a parish does but rather something a parish is. There is a very close connection between catechisis( conversion) and Church liturgy, as we become what we celebrate. We ask the parents to support their child not only in learning what we believe as Catholics but to actively live out that faith in the parish community.
