Classroom Newsletter

I am including a classroom newsletter in my portfolio, under the FEAP Communication, because it identifies my written communication techniques for keeping parents, students, and other educational stakeholders informed. I created this newsletter with the student in mind, making sure to include their writings under the section titled "Writer's Workshop Publications". By publishing the student's work, It gives parents and other members of the educational community an inside look at what we accomplish in the classroom. This is connected to the College of Education's Conceptual Framework in the area of Professionalism as it demonstrates my ability to effectively communicate in a professional setting. This will help me in the future because I now know how to format an informative newsletter to be used in my classroom. This will impact my students by enriching the connection between home and school.

Ethics Case Ruling

I am including my ruling on two ethics cases here in my portfolio, under the FEAP Ethics, because it displays my moral beliefs that educators should maintain honesty in all professional and educational dealings. I also feel that my rulings underline the importance of interaction between students, families and stakeholders in a manner that reflects high ethical and moral standards. This is directly associated with the College of Education's Conceptual Framework in the area of values. I will benefit from this ethics case because it provides a clear example of what not to do when I enter a classroom. My students will benefit by having a classroom atmosphere that is comfortable and suited for a well prepared educational experience.

Multiple Intelligence Inventory

Assessment is a major part of tracking the educational progress of students. I am including this self-created multiple intelligence inventory in my portfolio, under the FEAP Assessment, because it exhibits my ability to create informal tests to analyze individual students strengths. I can use the information discovered from my multiple intelligence inventory to create better lesson plans and specify problem areas for students. Administering this exam to my students will help me further understand the diverse backgrounds of the students in my class, which is directly related to the College of Education's Conceptual Framework in the area of diversity. It is important that I diversity my teaching styles to accomodate to the different intelligences that are portrayed in my inventory. This benefits me because it gives me a tool to further understand the learning styles of my students and where their strengths and weakness lie, which will help me plan more effective lessons. It benefits my students because they will be able to maximize their learning and understanding through their best intelligences, and work hard to improve the others.

Phonics Lesson Plan: Hard and Soft C and G

Lesson planning is an essential skill for teachers. The Language Arts lesson plan that I am including in my portfolio, uner the FEAP Planning, demonstrates my ability to create and plan a phonics lesson for primary grade levels. This lesson plan exhibits my skills in professionalism and planning, as it demonstrates my knowledge of content and what is required of me as an educator. This provided me with actual experience with planning and implementing lessons, which will benefit me greatly in the future. A well organized and planned lesson benefits the student by providing reliable information that is well researched and formulated, saving instrutional time.

Phonics Tape/Script

Before one is able to teach, they must have precise knowledge about the subject matter they are teaching. I have included my phonics tape/script assignment in my portfolio, under the FEAP Knowledge of Subject matter, because it demonstrates my understanding of phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency and other aspects of the subject matter. It also demonstrates my ability to create higher-order thinking questions for my students, which is standard for the College of Education's Conceptual Framework in the area of critical thinking. This beneftis my students because I will have a vast and precise background of knowledge to educate them with. This benefits me as a teacher by having the appropriate knowledge to teach students how to read.
