My Year as a Social Justice Intern

My Year as a Social Justice Intern

Me thinking about Social Justice

Hi, I'm Grace!

My sophomore year at Loyola University, I was looking to get involved at Loyola and with the greater Chicago community. As a psychology and social work student, I love meeting, learning about, and working with new people. To me, social justice is essential to protect and promote the rights and flourishing of all individuals. When I applied for the Social Justice Internship, I had hoped to further explore and apply social justice to my work with others.

One year later, I have finished my internship in the PEP department of Misericordia. This cumulative portfolio contains a year of reflections and applications of social justice, that display my progress as an intern throughout the year. The reflections track major applications of social justice, including: leadership in PEP, Asset Based Community Development, and personal understanding. The applications of social justice not only include my work at PEP, but also exploration of Female Genital Mutilation as social injustice, an Asset Based Community Development plan to address gentrification in Rogers Park, and the final presentation of my internship to share with the Loyola community.

I publish this site not only in hopes to inform a greater community of my experiences, but also to continue education, conversation, and connection in the pursuit of social justice.
