Nutrition Lesson Plan for Grade 1

Context: In the fall of 2004 as a part of Dr. Adam's Health Education class I created a lesson plan about nutrition for first grade. I used Microsoft Word to create the document and found extra resources on the Internet.

Impact: This lesson plan can easily be included in a day's activities and makes learning about nutrition easy and fun for first graders. This lesson focuses on making wise choices about eating, especially in choosing what to eat for breakfast. It also discusses the benefits of eating breakfast while soliciting critical thinking skills as students work to solve a problem.

Alignment:

NC DPI Standard 5:

  • Indicator 1 through a lesson which explains the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and the foundations of good health.
  • Indicator 2 through a discussion of major health issues related to children and the disadvantages of skipping breakfast.

NC DPI Standard 13:

  • Standard 13 through student development and practice of skills that contribute to good health such as choosing healthy foods from at least 4 food groups and choosing to be active rather than sedentary.
