Science Notebook

Context: In the second session of Block II in the summer of 2005, under the instruction of Professor Gail Bastarache I created a Science Notebook filled with information on every area of physical, life, and earth sciences. It is a compilation of hard copies of documents discussing those various areas.

Impact: By creating this notebook, I will have access to information about every area of instruction in science including lesson plans, pedagogy, and activities. I can implement this same strategy of compiling information into one central location in the classroom to help students stay organized and more efficiently find information.

Alignment:

NC DPI Standard 3:

  • Indicator 3 through compiling information about basic earth science concepts including activities and lesson plans about planetary astronomy, properties of earth materials, and earth dynamics and systems.

NC DPI Standard 9:

  • Indicator 3 through the lesson plans formatted to develop instruction in communication that enable students to organize and communicate their mathematical thinking and to use the language of mathematics to precisely express their ideas.

NC DPI Standard 17:

  • Indicator 2 through practicing the proper analysis of the lab for safety and by researching materials and chemicals to know about their safety issues before being handled.
  • Indicator 3 through studying and compiling information concerning the science Safety Laws, Codes, and Standards.
  • Indicator 4 through putting appropriate safety behaviors in the science lab into practice.
