A group works on reading and transferring winter words!

We worked on copying special vocabulary to paper, and it helps our emergent reading skills first handedly. One of reading strategies is to use the pictures as clues to help us decode....in this particular case, we had these cool words attached to thier matching pictures. While it is challenging work, we love to see the actual print of special things that we already love!

During Reader's Workshop, we are on a hunt! We hunt for letters, sight words, punctuation, tables of contents in non-fiction books etc. Giving emerent readers specific tasks while they are browsing books, makes their reading time that much more meaningful, and when they are successful, it build reading confidence and a yearning to do it again the next time they read! This week during morning message, we also discussed the term compound word, ( some fun ones were snowman, birdbath and birdfeeder) which they all thought was very cool.

We have Reader's Workshop three times weekly. The Black Bats are very comfortable with the routine and expectations during that time. Because of wonderful behavior, we earned a special reading party because we had 10 great Reader Workshop sessions. This was so special and we loved every minute of it! These times just reinforce the fun and happy times that come with reading and enjoying being surrounded by literature.  We look forward to earning more reading parties!!!
