Black Bats bundled up for fun in the snow!  Today’s outdoor conditions were conducive to the group creating a new game.  Every snow slide lap each individual finished equaled one point toward a team total.  We discovered that by working together to help each other up the steep slope rather than charging ahead with an each for their own attitude, we were able to accumulate more points for our team.  Our vocabulary word today:  ‘collaboration’.  We discussed what this means in relation to team success.

A new sensory awareness activity- ‘Faces in the trees, faces in the stones’ found partners finding interesting faces and patterns in the bark of trees and on larger stones/rocks around campus.

In O.E. this week Black Bats learned some about track and field sports.  We ran different relays, practiced baton handoffs and cheered each other on!  We talked about how to make our class the best it can be and the group came up with two problem solving solutions:  improve on listening and dress really really warm!  When we are dressed properly for the outdoors we set ourselves up for success in O.E.  We completed class with a fun circle running game.

Black Bats played the game – ‘Stalking the Leader’; a game involving a camouflage concept, today for the second time.  It was great to see individual students making more connections on how their actions influenced the outcome of the game.  As a whole, the class developed working strategies as they learned through play, and experienced greater enjoyment during play.

We also built ‘Human Sculptures’ – a charade-like themed activity involving teamwork from beginning to end.  By setting open ended goals of choosing an animal to create and deciding how to portray this animal using each team member, students have the opportunity to verbally consult with one another; sharing ideas and compromising, also performing as a group in front of others.

Black Bats flew across the field during a fun game of freeze tag as well.
