We continue to experience drawing in different ways. This week Bat artists were introduced to famous artist Paul Klee and viewed many of his works in relation to line drawing. Our activity led us to draw like Paul Klee! Students made an abstract figure with one continuous line, following an instructional reference of a line that goes up, down, over, and across.
A return to the ‘expanded images’ project. Students began with a single cut out image, then, expanded on this through drawing related visual information -scenery and detail. We focused on foreground, middle ground, and background in these works as well.
Happy Valentine’s Day! With a focus on ‘shape’, each individual followed the steps involving folding, contour drawing, and cutting to create magnificent large red hearts. We learned a bit about the differences between collaging and mosaic art processes, then using many colored traditional mosaic squares, students created abstract mosaics onto their cut out hearts. This focus had students carefully placing squares close to each other, however, being careful not to overlap; also using just the right amount of glue!
Bat artists completed the ‘Color Waves’ project today, and began a new project ‘Expanded Images’. Each child searched through a variety of magazines and collected one image of interest with which to expand on with related subject matter in a drawing. Using the cut out picture as a starting point, glued to a blank picture plane, students used imagination to create related imagery and add scenery, details, and color to their composition.
